Sony Games TOMB RAIDER III: ADVENTURES OF LARA CROFT PSX US Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft on the Sony PlayStation as released in the US on 21st November 1998. As usual, the logo differs from the rest of the world. Unlike other Tomb Raider III covers, Lara is featured on the ground outside St. Paul's Cathedral rather than on the rooftops. The background behind Lara has been given a blue hue. A ponytail has also been added to the render of Lara for this release. There were two versions of the game disc initially released. This is the blue disc featuring a promotional render of Lara with one finger over her lips. The back of the manual advertises Core Design's Ninja: Shadow of Darkness (1998) and Crystal Dynamics's Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (1999) while the back cover insert advertises the official strategy guide for Tomb Raider III by David Winding. Typical for the US releases, screenshots from a much earlier build of the game are featured on the back, displaying Lara's white Antarctic outfit and the Classic outfit in other locations of the game. There are a few errors in the back cover text. It erroneously states that Lara is searching for a "meteor" when she is actually searching for artefacts which originated from the meteorite. The features section claims that hyenas appear in the game and that the Grenade Launcher is a new weapon when it had just previously appeared in Tomb Raider II: Starring Lara Croft (1997). Back Cover Text: Bigger, Badder and Better than Ever! Join Lara in her biggest adventure to date in the phenomenal Tomb Raider series. From the jungles of India to the icy wastes of Antarctica, Lara is ready for anything. Prepare to be amazed! "Just stunning! The game comes with two discs, the Japanese version and the International version. The Japanese version of the game has more items scattered around the level and less enemy health. The big thing though is that the crystals, used as save crystals in the ps1 version of TR3 we all know, are used instead as health crystals in the Japanese version. They provide the same amount of health as a large medi pack. Lastly, the default control scheme is different, with the X button being used for jump, for example. The international version seems to be just the UK version of the game with Japanese region encoding, even the menus are still in English.
