Hi RossKroft96, thanks for accepting this interview and taking the time to reply to these few questions.
Hello there, not a problem at all I've never been interviewed before so this is a first and I'm really excited so let's give it a go.
So, tell us a bit more about you. How did you become a fan of the Tomb Raider and LEGO franchises?
Well my name is Ross, I'm 21 from Ireland. My interests include gaming, drawing and collecting. I became a fan of Tomb Raider back in the early 2000s probably 2002 I was about 5 or 6 when I played my very 1st video game which was Tomb Raider 2 on the PlayStation 1. I can't remember too much but I know it was my step dad's PlayStation but I don't know whose copy of Tomb Raider it was but I remember hearing the sound of the PS1 start up and the Sony logo appearing and hearing that mesmerizing theme song and just seeing this bad ass looking woman in these enchanting environments it really was something and since that moment I've been addicted ever since, like obsessed. As for the LEGO franchise back in 2009 I borrowed my little cousin's copy of LEGO Indiana Jones just to see what it was like and seeing all these awesome characters from the movies as these cute little toys that at the time I never played with but found cool and fascinating I was just in awe over the whole thing and I've played every LEGO game up until that point. It wasn't until 2011 that I got into the actual LEGO toys but that's another story.
How did you have the idea to start recreating some Tomb Raider levels or areas in LEGO Worlds and why did you choose these locations?
It all started when LEGO Worlds came out March 7th in 2017 and of course I picked it up on launch day and the 1st thing I wanted to do was build something Tomb Raider related and what better than Croft Manor. I just thought it would be fun to build Lara's home which is such an iconic location. The response has been insane. Everybody loved it and it's my most viewed video on my channel with currently 26,767 views and 681 likes. I never expected the overwhelming amount of support from the Tomb Raider community they are incredible & it feels so good to be apart of something. The offical Tomb Raider YouTube channel even commented on my video & their Twitter page gave me a shout out and it was literally the best thing that's ever happened to me. It's hard to believe it's been over a year now since the video was made and inbetween that time I've made a couple more locations like Cafe Metro from Angel of Darkness & Miss Sophia Leigh's Office from Tomb Raider 3 and I chose them because they were nice and simple small areas to build and they are also some of my favorite locations. There are also other videos I made that aren't from LEGO Worlds for example I made custom Tomb Raider characters in games like LEGO Jurrassic World & LEGO Marvel Superheroes & they were a lot of fun to create.
How much time did it take you to create the Croft Manor in LEGO Worlds?
I started building Croft Manor around March 20th of 2017 and it took me approximately 2 weeks to build it and then roughly another week to make the video and I uploaded it on April 9th and overall it took 84 hours to build the entire manor and grounds from scratch. It got very frustrating at times to build as the game was full of bugs and glitches that sometimes prevented me from continuing and I felt like stopping and just giving up but I said to myself no this has to happen I'm not giving up so I pushed through, listened to a lot of Ellie Goulding & Coldplay, had a few late nights and here we are.
Do you plan to create more videos in the future? Any specific other Tomb Raider levels or areas you would like to redo in LEGO Worlds?
Oh absolutely, I most definitely will now I don't have anything in particular in mind at the moment, a lot of people have been asking me to re create entire levels and Croft Manor was only 1 building and that took a long time and was at times frustrating due to glitches but never say never. In the meantime however I just have to wait and see what inspires me.
