This ReShade preset aims to recreate the nostalgic VHS‑style visuals associated with playing Tomb Raider on the original PlayStation during the 1990s. At that time, high‑resolution and high‑definition displays were uncommon, and games were typically viewed on older televisions or CRT monitors. As a result, graphics often appeared soft, grainy, and slightly blurred, especially when rendering sharp textures. Some screens even produced subtle technicolor shifts, depending on the hardware.

The goal of this preset is to bring that atmosphere back to Tomb Raider I–III Remastered. The remasters’ classic mode textures are extremely sharp and lack the smoothing filter present in the original PC releases. While the PS1 version also used sharp textures, the overall presentation on CRT hardware created a softer, more blended look — complete with pixelation, grain, and the characteristic texture warping of the era. This preset focuses on recreating that authentic PS1‑through‑a‑CRT feel rather than enhancing or modernising the graphics.

(Please note that ReShade cannot fully replicate every aspect of the original PS1 presentation. Certain effects, such as true texture warping, are not possible within ReShade’s current capabilities, and colour reproduction may differ slightly from genuine VHS or CRT output. Additionally, the preset is designed for use with classic mode rather than modern graphics, and it does utilise GPU resources, which may affect performance depending on your system.)
