Eidos Interactive Announces Tomb Raider II Gold; Expands Tomb Raider Franchise, Which Tops 15 Million Units Sold Worldwide (1998)

Official Press Release - April 7, 1998

This special expanded edition includes the original game, developed by Core Design, plus an additional disk called "Golden Mask" which places Lara Croft in four all-new levels.

In "Tomb Raider II Gold," PC gamers lead Lara on a quest for the Golden Mask of Tornarsuk through multiple environments including an island glacier, a top-secret Russian government mine and beyond, into the underworld of the ancient Inuit people in this supernatural adventure.

Gamers can get a preview of the Golden Mask edition by downloading the first level from C/Net's GameCenter starting April 22. Additional levels will be made available for download on C/Net's GameCenter prior to the release of the game.

Four For Free (1999)

Eidos offers up Tomb Raider II Gold extra levels free of charge.

Those Eidos people sure know how to ruin a bright sunny day. Instead of Jet Skiing, or at least loitering at the nearest supermarket parking lot, you can stay in your darkened bedroom playing all four additional levels included with Tomb Raider II Gold, for the grand price of free. By going to the Eidos website, gamers that have already purchased Tomb Raider II can download the levels directly from the company.

All you need to be able to play the add-on is the original Tomb Raider II disc in the drive when you start the TRII Gold executable. The additional levels continue the dagger of Xian storyline, and has Lara vs. the monks in a battle to the death. Find all the secrets, and you can even open up the bonus Las Vegas map, which does have plenty of action, but no Siegfried and Roy, unfortunately.
