Tomb Raider references in Painkiller (2023 TV show)
Painkiller is a 6 episodes TV show that premiered on Netflix on August 10, 2023. It focuses on the birth of the opioid crisis, with an emphasis on Purdue Pharma, a company owned by Richard Sackler and his family that was the manufacturer of OxyContin.
Surprisingly in several episodes of the show there are many references to Tomb Raider. (Big shout out to Chris alias @DrMemehattan on TwitterX for letting us know about it.) In the first episode one of the main characters plays Tomb Raider during her free time. She struggles a lot and can be seen calling the hotline in order to find help to progress through the game. |
In the second episode, she continues to play Tomb Raider.
|
In the third episode, she plays Tomb Raider III.
|
Unfortunately she doesn't play anymore in the three remaining episodes, however here's a final Tomb Raider anecdote related to the TV show: in the French version a character is dubbed by Hervé Jolly who voiced Pieter Van Eckhardt in Tomb Raider The Angel of Darkness (and Conrad Roth in Tomb Raider 2013).
