History of the website and the original Core Design company |
1988 :
- Core Design, a British video game development studio based in the city of Derby was founded by Jeremy Heath-Smith and several former employees of Gremlin Graphics.

1989:
- Rick Dangerous, the studio's first game, was released.
1994:
- Core was acquired by the CentreGold group, comprising the publisher US Gold and distributor CentreSoft.
1996:
- Eidos Interactive acquires CentreGold plc, which includes US Gold, Core Design and CentreSoft. The same year the first Tomb Raider game was released.
2003:
- Eidos moved the development of the Tomb Raider franchise from Core Design to Crystal Dynamics, another Eidos-owned studio, after Tomb Raider : The Angel of Darkness mixed reviews. Several members including key member Jeremy Heath-Smith left the team and established a game development of their own, Circle Studio which was liquidated later in 2007.
2006:
- The company is acquired by Rebellion (Rebellion Derby), but Eidos retains the name and IPs. Rebellion Derby closed its doors later in 2010.
2007:
- The official Core Design domain name is put up for sale.
2014:
- The domain name is acquired and a new "by the fans for the fans" Core Design tribute website is created.
